**A text to a Canadian number costs $0.0032 per segment, plus a
$0.0045 carrier fee passed through at cost:
$0.0077 for a one-segment text.** The per-segment rate is
the same on every US and Canadian network.

## Price per segment

| Sent from | Rate | Carrier fee | One segment |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| US local number | $0.0032 | $0.0045 | $0.0077 |
| US toll-free number | $0.0032 | $0.0045 | $0.0077 |

Canadian carriers are billed at the "Other carriers" fee in our
[carrier fee table](/pricing/sms/us#price-per-segment), as of 2026-10-01.

A segment is 160 plain characters, or 70 when the text has an emoji or
another special character. Longer texts are split into segments of 153 (or 67)
characters, and each segment is billed.

## Which number to send from

Text Canadian recipients from a US local number with an approved
[10DLC registration](/10dlc) or a [verified toll-free number](/toll-free-verification).
Canadian numbers can be bought, but they cannot be registered through us yet,
so they text only your verified numbers.

## Everything else

| | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Inbound SMS | Free for now |
| Phone number | $0.95 per month |
| Phone verification | $0.025 per successful verification |
| Platform fee | None |

You pay when the carrier accepts the text. Sends we block, and sends that
fail before reaching a carrier, cost nothing, fees included. Usage is prepaid
in USD: you buy credits and usage draws them down.

## What a month costs

One-segment texts to Canadian numbers from one US local number, with the
number's monthly charge:

| One-segment texts a month | Rate | Carrier fees | One number | Total |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1,000 | $3.20 | $4.50 | $0.95 | **$8.65** |
| 10,000 | $32.00 | $45.00 | $0.95 | **$77.95** |
| 100,000 | $320.00 | $450.00 | $0.95 | **$770.95** |

Longer texts cost the same per segment: a 300-character text without emoji is
two segments, so twice the rate and twice the carrier fee. Replies people send
you cost nothing for now, and a send that fails before a carrier accepts it is
not charged.
